Biography
Marilyn Brown received her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam in 2001. Her performance
concentration was piano, with an emphasis in piano pedagogy, music theory and vocal training. She holds a M. Ed in Educational Administration from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell. She is permanently certified to teach music in New York State.
Ms. Brown has experience as a public and private music teacher. Her first position was at John Amesse Elementary School in Denver Colorado, where she taught general music and chorus to students, and private lessons from her home. In 2003, Ms. Brown moved to Germany where she pursued her own piano studies, and continued to give piano lessons privately. By 2005, Ms. Brown returned to the United States and accepted a long-term leave position for the North Colonie School district, where she taught general and vocal elementary music at Boght Hills elementary school, as well as 7-8 grade general music and 7th grade Choir at Shaker Jr. High School. She also taught two classes, Music theory 1 and Music In our Lives at Shaker high school.
In 2006 Ms. Brown accepted a position as full-time Choral Director for the Coxsackie-Athens School district. She taught 7-8 Chorus, Mixed high School Choir, music theory, music in our lives and voice lessons. Under her direction, students were members of Melodies of Christmas, All-County, Area-All State, All-State and All-Eastern Festivals. In addition to this position, she taught private piano and voice lessons.
In September of 2011 Ms. Brown began her current position as general music and choral teacher at St. Helen's School in Niskayuna NY. She is currently accepting new students for her studio in the afternoons and evenings during the week.
